A ‘Mrs. Brown’s Boys’ Live Show Is Coming To Manchester This Year

The 10th anniversary tour of 'Mrs. Brown Rides Again' will span the length and breadth of the country this year.

Marmite mammy Mrs. Brown will be touring the country this year, taking her Mrs. Brown Rides Again play on the road once more. Written by and starring Brendan O’Carroll as the main character Agnes Brown, the play sees O’Carroll’s beloved character try to outfox her children’s plan to put her into a home.

After many iterations of Mrs. Brown, including the BBC’s Mrs. Brown’s Boys, Mrs. Brown D’Movie and All Round to Mrs. Brown’s, the play comes full circle to where it started in the early 1990s. The character was borne when Brendan O’Carroll was a struggling performer, and having written Mrs. Browne as a play, was forced to go onstage and play her when the lead actress didn’t show up. And the rest is history!

The dedicated, fun-loving cast have been extremely loyal to the project, and recently Tweeted through the Mrs. Brown’s Boys account: “We haven’t preformed this in 10 yrs so were very excited”. Meanwhile, O’Carroll echoed: “The Pandemic is gone, and Mrs Brown is back. It doesn’t get any better.”

The show’s promoters said: “Written by and starring Brendan O’Carroll as the beloved ‘Mammy’, the classic Mrs. Brown Rides Again follows Agnes Brown and her dysfunctional family romp their way through what seems to be the Mammy’s last days at home.

“After hearing a plot, by her children, to have her put into a home, Agnes decides to prove them wrong by displaying a new lease of life. However, this is not going to be as easy as it seems as along the way she must deal with a psychiatrist trying to put her in her place, her neighbours wait for a heart bypass, and worst of all, a family secret that everyone seems to know except her.”

The news comes after it was announced that Mrs. Brown’s Boys will be making a return of sorts to BBC One, with a four episode run.

Mrs. Brown Rides Again comes to Manchester Opera House on 30th August – 2nd September 2023, and you can find tickets here.
