BBC accused of 'flogging a dead horse' as it drops Mrs Brown's Boys Christmas bombshell: 'We pay for it!'

Image
The BBC has shared its festive TV line-up ahead of the Christmas period, but many have already slammed the seasonal offerings. Comedy Mrs Brown's Boys debuted in 2011, with three additional series following. Since the last batch of episodes, it has aired only Christmas Special episodes despite persistent calls from some for the show to be shelved. "So is still paying probably a fortune for a show that basically seems to have the same story each Christmas. No wonder people are cancelling the tv licence." One former fan claimed the show had run its course, adding: "I use to love this show, it's gone on too long the storylines are awful now. Time to call it a day." "Why do they flog this dead horse?" a third asked before another queried: "No one even watches this, why does it get new episodes every Christmas?" Another user wrote: "If I could cancel my tv license, I would. The current listings are c**p & we're payin...

Shedites | BBC piloting new sitcom starring Mrs Brown’s Boys creator

Image
Like it or not, Mrs Brown’s Boys has consistently been one of the top rated sitcoms on the BBC since its debut in 2011. Brendan O’Carroll’s foul mouthed Mammy has sharply divided audiences and critics, but there’s no denying the comedy appeals to a lot of people, selling out multiple arena tours and transferring to the big screen in 2011 with Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie. It is perhaps surprising that it’s taken until now for O’Carroll to headline another sitcom for the BBC. He wrote an Army sitcom called Lebanese Outpost, which was in development at the BBC in 2021, but nothing has been produced. According to the British Comedy Guide, Shedites comes from the pen of O’Carroll’s Mrs Brown’s Boys co-star and co-writer Paddy Houlihan. O’Carroll stars alongside Tommy Cannon, best known as one half of double act Cannon and Ball. Houlihan and O’Carroll’s son Danny O’Carroll are also in the cast. The pilot episode was shot in April and was directed by Ian Fitzgibbon, and is said to be about...

Mrs Brown's Boys is returning to TV for a new four-part series. The hit sitcom has been a fixture of the Christmas TV schedules for over a decade but the upcoming episodes will mark the first new series since 2013. Creator Brendan O'Carroll - who also leads the cast as matriarch Agnes Brown - admitted the show has been 'thwarted twice' due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as it was originally scheduled to hit screens in 2021. Speaking of the new series, which will be filmed in spring ahead of broadcast later this year after a 10-year break, the 67-year-old comic said: 'This mini-series was actually planned for 2021. 'Having been thwarted twice, firstly by Covid-19 and then by a post-Covid shortage of studios, it's fantastic to, at last, have the chance to make it happen.  Fasten your seatbelts and hold on to your hats!' BBC bosses are delighted to have the show back. Josh Cole, head of comedy at BBC Studios, and Steven Canny, executive producer, said...

A ‘Mrs. Brown’s Boys’ Live Show Is Coming To Manchester This Year

Image
The 10th anniversary tour of 'Mrs. Brown Rides Again' will span the length and breadth of the country this year.  Marmite mammy Mrs. Brown will be touring the country this year, taking her Mrs. Brown Rides Again play on the road once more. Written by and starring Brendan O’Carroll as the main character Agnes Brown, the play sees O’Carroll’s beloved character try to outfox her children’s plan to put her into a home. After many iterations of Mrs. Brown , including the BBC’s Mrs. Brown’s Boys , Mrs. Brown D’Movie and All Round to Mrs. Brown’s , the play comes full circle to where it started in the early 1990s. The character was borne when Brendan O’Carroll was a struggling performer, and having written Mrs. Browne as a play, was forced to go onstage and play her when the lead actress didn’t show up. And the rest is history!   The dedicated, fun-loving cast have been extremely loyal to the project, and recently Tweeted through the Mrs. Brown’s Boys account: “We...
