Mrs Brown's Boys creator Brendan O'Carroll set to release his autobiography

The comedian made the announcement on the show's official Instagram page on Tuesday

 

 
 

Mrs Brown’s Boys star Brendan O’Carroll has revealed he has penned his first autobiography.

‘Call Me Mrs Brown’ delves into the popular Dubliner’s early years, including his childhood growing up in Finglas, Dublin and the youngest of 11 children. It will also include his plans for the future. 

Brendan announced the news on the show’s official Mrs Brown’s Boys Instagram page on Tuesday. 

 


Speaking to his character, Mrs Brown, Brendan said: “The book seems to be going well,” to which Agnes replies: “A book? About what?”

He responds: “Well, it is about my life. Where I came from and where I am going.”

But Mrs Brown quips: “Agnes bored,” but Brendan said: “No, no it is not boring. It is really interesting. I think it is anyway. I mean, you look at my childhood and where I grew up and where I…” before he trails off when he sees a snoring Mrs Brown. 

 


In 2013, author Brian Beacom released a book called The Real Mrs. Brown: The Authorised Biography of Brendan O'Carroll – but O’Carroll has never written his own autobiography until now.

O’Carroll – who splits his time between Dublin and Florida – is expected to reveal his schooldays at St Gabriels National School before leaving at the age of 12.

The 66-year-old then came to the public attention after appearing on The Late Late Show numerous times as a comedic guest.

In 1992, O'Carroll performed a short skit on the radio called Mrs Brown's Boys.

This led to him writing four books called, The Mammy, The Granny, The Chisellers and The Scrapper.

In 1999, a movie based on his book The Mammy called Agnes Browne was released. The success led O'Carroll to establish his own family theatre company.

After the actor he hired to play Agnes Browne never showed up, O'Carroll decided to don the granny outfit and the rest is history.

A massively successful stage show tour across Ireland and the UK, the BBC approached him to make a sitcom version of the BAFTA-award winning Mrs Brown's Boys.

 The actor is a patron of the Les Hoey MBE Dreammaker Chairty and says it's time that bands and artists give a bit more back to good causes instead of asking for 'horrendous' fees to perform for their events.     Mrs Browns Boys actor Gary Hollywood has slammed bands who charge charities too much to play at their event - and says it's time for a rethink. Gary is a patron of the Les Hoey MBE Dreammaker charity and gives his services for free to the cause which helps children with life threatening illnesses.
